Silver Project Group partnered with The House Fund, a Berkeley, CA-based VC firm, to perform a leadership search for a portfolio company, Laurel.ai. Laurel is a technology company specializing in automated timekeeping solutions that leverage artificial intelligence to enhance productivity and billing accuracy for professionals, with a focus in the legal, financial and consulting sectors.
The Challenge
Laurel, a Series-B company at the time of engagement, was ready to hire their first dedicated marketing leader to help them scale business efforts and drive revenue with new and existing clients. This leader would need to be able to drive key metrics around ARR and work closely with the sales team to develop enablement materials and demand generation strategies. This hire would be required to be in either of Laurel’s offices based in Los Angeles and San Francisco, reporting directly to the CEO.

The Execution
SPG began the search with deep research for relevant and competitor companies within the AI, professional services, SaaS industries in order to create a talent ecosystem from which to start the candidate calibration process. The search was targeted towards leaders within the SaaS industries that had deep experience in demand generation, sales-based marketing strategies and growth tactics.
SPG acted as a trusted advisor in helping Laurel determine the level of seniority required for the company in it’s current stage. Having honest and transparent conversations about the “must-have” versus “nice to have” were hallmarks of this process and enabled both parties to successfully land of the right profile.
